A connected record, not a verdict

Each machine, company, technology, component, industry, application, paper, person, laboratory, funding event or rule is a structured record. Relationships connect those records only when the source supports the connection. Inclusion is descriptive and is never an endorsement, certification or suitability determination.

Source hierarchy

We prefer laws, regulator records, government databases, standards bodies, peer-reviewed research, official filings and first-party technical documentation. Manufacturer and company statements are useful for product details but remain attributed claims. Independent reputable reporting may establish a reported event when no primary record is available. Aggregators and unsourced reposts are not treated as proof.

Evidence labels

Primary source

A regulator, official filing, paper, standard or other originating record supports the claim.

Confirmed

Multiple reliable records or an authoritative source establishes the fact.

Manufacturer claim

The builder or vendor states the specification; independent verification is not implied.

Reported

A named reputable publisher reports the information.

Estimate or sample

The value is explicitly approximate, modeled or demonstrative and not presented as measured fact.

Rumor or unverified

The claim lacks sufficient confirmation and is visibly segregated from established facts.

Dates and freshness

“Published” describes a source or article date; “observed” describes when a value applied; and “last reviewed” describes the Observatory review. A page update does not silently make an old underlying fact current. Time-sensitive records keep their date and can be marked stale when the source has gone quiet.

Specifications and missing values

Units are preserved or converted transparently. Conflicting specifications are not averaged into false precision. Undisclosed values appear as “Not publicly disclosed” or “Source not provided”; they are never inferred from nearby models, promotional imagery or unrelated machines.

Research and news

Research pages provide citation metadata, a short original synopsis and a link to the paper or publisher; they do not copy full papers. News pages retain only a headline, short feed-supplied summary, publisher, publication time, link and optional feed image. The Observatory does not copy article bodies or fabricate news stories.

Rankings and comparisons

Rankings use the displayed field and include only records with comparable sourced values. Missing data is not scored as zero. Comparisons expose differences without deciding that one machine is “best”; mission, environment, integration, regulation and safety requirements remain context-specific.

AI assistance and human review

This site is compiled partly through AI-assisted research; figures are indicative and may be out of date — verify against primary sources. AI assistance may help normalize fields, find potential relationships or draft summaries, but it may not invent missing data or replace source review. Higher-risk aviation, medical, safety and defense claims require especially cautious attribution.

Corrections

Source revisions are reflected when discovered or during the next applicable refresh. To report an error, send the affected URL, the precise claim and a primary or authoritative source through Contact. A material correction should update the record, evidence label and review date.
